Testimony: Questions About Cultural Education & Integration

Testimony, an ongoing project by artist Eliza Gregory, explores the landscape and stories of contemporary immigration to San Francisco. Working with local nonprofits, service providers, students and communities, the project finds ways to illuminate individual stories about what's happening in this city right now, while simultaneously intervening in the tropes we use to describe immigration.

For this, the second event in the Testimony project to take place at the Asian Art Museum, the artist and the museum will host a conversation about cultural education in the city. Highlighting initiatives by parents as well as the audience's own experiences with integration and cultural exchange, the experience will introduce participants to each other and delve into family anecdotes.

We will also be launching a booklet that documents the first Testimony event, presenting interviews with service providers to immigrants in different parts of the city alongside audience perspectives and portraits.

The Box Project returns to the Asian Art Museum Sunday, June 5th. Once again come on out and construct a cardboard world from 11-4 in Samsung Hall.

If you want to hear more, I told Andrew & Polly all about it on Ear Snacks, their fun and delicious podcast for kids (which you can listen & subscribe to for free!) And, as always, you can submit pictures of your own cardboard creations to www.theboxproject.org.
